Participating teams from different high education institutions started with perfect performance in the opening week of Universities football, basketball and cricket tournaments for the sport season 2023 – 2024 held last week.

In the men’s football contests, University of Doha for Science and Technology got better of Hamad bin Khalifa University 13- 0 and Lusail University defeated CUC Ulster University Qatar 3-0.

In the football event held on Wednesday, participating teams produced incredible technical performance, where Oryx Universal College got better of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar 4-2, as Texas A&M University at Qatar defeated Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar 2-0.

In the basketball opening games, Qatar University edged out Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar 64-45, Hamad bin Khalifa University beat Georgetown University in Qatar 48-45, Texas A&M University at Qatar beat Northwestern University in Qatar 61-43, University of Doha for Science and Technology recorded a convincing 78-65 win over Global Studies Institute, University of Doha for Science and Technology defeated Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar 46-38 and Global Studies Institute overcome Northwestern University in Qatar 74-49.

In the women basketball events, University of Doha for Science and Technology edged out Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar 29-12 and Texas A&M University at Qatar defeated Virginia Commonwealth University – Qatar 69-4.

In cricket event, American University of Afghanistan secured a convincing 162 – 72 victory over Georgetown University in Qatar.

Most notably, football second edition brings together 12 teams from different universities , who are competing for top honors, namely Northwestern University in Qatar, American University of Afghanistan, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (UBKU), Lusail University, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Qatar University, Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College, University of Doha for Science and Technology – (UDST), CUC Ulster University Qatar, Oryx Universal College in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University in Qatar and Texas A&M University at Qatar.

In this league format event the teams with highest points will advance to the knock out rounds.

This QCSF Universities basketball Tournament is running from 15th October 2023 to 28th January 2024, with participation of eight male teams, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (UBKU), Georgetown University in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar and Global Studies Institute – Qatar.

Likewise, four female teams are competing in this tournament, including Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, University of Doha for Science and Technology, Virginia Commonwealth University and Texas A&M University at Qatar.
